Apart from looking after our current orphaned children, the Orphans Endowment Fund has started supporting other orphaned and vulnerable children organizations in South Africa including the following:

THE ORPHANS ENDOWMENT FUND DONATES R100 000 TO SUPPORT JAMES HOUSE CHILD AND YOUTH CARE BASED IN HOUT BAY, WESTERN CAPE

James House Child and Youth Care firmly believes that family preservation and reunification work is key in changing the lives of orphans and vulnerable youth and their families. The Children’s Home cares for children who have nobody to take care of them sufficiently due to poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, and domestic violence. Family breakdown is common. Child neglect and child abuse are still rife in the community and there is an increase in the number of orphans as a result of the HIV Aids pandemic. The Child and Youth Care Centre proudly offering One Residential Treatment Centre for Boys and Girls and 3 Prevention and Early Intervention Programmes. These programmes are well implemented and it is looked at as Best Practice Models in South Africa operating within the South African legal framework of the Children’s Act No 38 of 2005.

THE ORPHANS ENDOWMENT FUND DONATES R80 000 TO SUPPORT DURBAN CHILD AND YOUTH CARE CENTRE BASED IN DURBAN, KWAZULU NATAL

The Durban Child and Youth Care Centre is a registered children’s home that was founded in 1905. The Centre is currently providing residential care to 74 boys and girls between the ages of 2 and 18 years.  These children are placed through the courts having been found to be at risk and in need of a safe and caring environment.  The reasons leading to placement include orphan hood, abandonment, rejection, and all forms of abuse.

THE ORPHANS ENDOWMENT FUND DONATES R60 000 TO SUPPORT AN-NUR EDUCATIONAL CENTRE BASED IN OTTERY

An-Nur Educational Islamic Centre provides accommodation to 30 orphans living in the hostel who comes from various parts of the country, others are raised by single parents and others come from disadvantaged home. The aim is to break the cycle of poverty through education and create a positive environment in which these orphans are cared for, and have well educated competent & dynamic youth leaders from within the less fortunate communities, who can serve as role models to other youth as well as positively and address the social- economic challenges within their communities.  The organization also provides Sewing classes.

THE ORPHANS ENDOWMENT FUND DONATES R50 000 TO IHYAA ID-DEEN BASED IN LENESIA NORTH, GAUTENG, TO SUPPORT ORPHANED BOYS AND GIRLS TOWARDS THEIR SCHOOL FEES

Ihyaa Id -Deen provides a warm, rich and comfortable home for orphans and vulnerable children, abandoned, abused, and safe care for boys from the ages of 5 to 14 years. The mission is to provide a stable, loving home environment that will aid the child’s development, and to ensure each child receives a quality education, homework assistance, tuition, and religious studies. While also encouraging participation in sports and social and cultural activities all within a safe environment. In addition to this, the organization also ensures that each child’s needs are met in terms of their psychological and physical needs.

THE ORPHANS ENDOWMENT FUND DONATES R50 000 TO SUPPORT THANDANANI CHILDRENS HOME BASED IN PIETERMARITZBURG, KWAZULU NATAL​

Thandanani Children’s Foundation is a registered non-profit organisation that facilitates community-based care and support for orphaned and other vulnerable children in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Since April 2007, Thandanani has supported 15,158 beneficiaries across 2441 households via the Family Strengthening Project.

Thandanani has a well-established system of community-based care and support for orphaned and other vulnerable children (OVC) and their families. This system involves training residents from the communities in which they work as fieldworkers who then helps to identify and address the basic needs of resource-constrained families caring for orphans and other vulnerable children.

THE ORPHANS ENDOWMENT FUND DONATES R25 000 TO THE ST PHILOMENAS BASED IN BEREA, DURBAN​

St. Philomena’s was established with the aim of providing developmental care for orphaned and vulnerable children (OVCs) and youth in Durban, KZN.

St. Philomena’s works with all members of the community and has projects with special emphasis on:

  • Children between the ages of 7 to 13 years old

  • Primary caregivers of children and their family members

  • Orphans & vulnerable children 6 – 18 years old

  • Orphans & vulnerable girls 18 – 21 years old

THE ORPHANS ENDOWMENT FUND DONATES R25 000 TO MALVERN CHILD AND YOUTH CARE CENTRE

Malvern Child and Youth Care Centre provides a safe and nurturing home for 72 children who have been orphaned, abused or neglected, as well as those suffering from chronic life-threatening illnesses or disability. The children are provided with safe and secure accommodation, daily cooked meals, counselling services, and much more. The children attend 9 schools in the surrounding area of Malvern, and the organisation is exempted from paying school fees but have to pay for excursions and other related activities that the children participate in.

THE ORPHANS ENDOWMENT FUND DONATES R25 000 TO THE ST THERESA’S HOME-BASED IN MAYVILLE, DURBAN

St Theresa’s Children’s Home is one such facility that currently provides professional care for orphaned and vulnerable boys from the ages 3 to 18 years from poor communities across the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Many families that are already poverty-stricken and are struggling to provide for the basic needs of their families are unable to provide such services at home and do not have the resources to send children to facilities that charge for such services.

The Orphans Endowment Waqf Fund (OEWF) has signed a 3- year agreement with Islamic Relief South Africa to sponsor 10 orphans

 The OEWF will make available R72 000 per annum to Islamic Relief for the next three years. The financial assistance provided by the OEWF allows orphaned and vulnerable children the opportunity to access their fundamental needs and rights, while also providing the donor with the opportunity and reward of contributing to the establishment of a more holistic society. The donations through the Waqf Fund enhance the overall quality of life and well-being of Orphaned Vulnerable Children (OVC) through the following programmes in South Africa

Food Aid

All sponsored OVCs are provided with a monthly food pack ensuring that their basic need for food is taken care of. The food aid component also sees to basic hygiene items in order to eliminate the anxiety associated with the lack of access to nutrition.

Education

The OEWF guarantees that orphans have access to quality education while providing the basic essentials such as school uniforms, stationery, bags, etc. at the beginning of each academic year. This ensures that the dignity of the orphans is maintained in the school setting and eliminates the despondency of their circumstances thus making them fully focus on their academic performance.

HEALTHCARE

All OVC have access to psychosocial support conducted by care workers under the supervision of psychosocial support officers. The Care Workers conduct pre-assessments and risk assessments in order to refer necessary cases to social workers or to medical practitioners.

You can be a means of creating change and giving hope to orphans in South Africa by donating to the Orphans Endowment Waqf Fund and being a part of a long-standing Islamic tradition of ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariya). You enable underprivileged orphans with the opportunity to live a life filled with integrity.

THE ORPHANS ENDOWMENT FUND DONATES R50 000 TO SUPPORT iTHEMBA LETHU IN CATO MANOR, DURBAN

iThemba Lethu, translated as ‘Our Hope’ was founded in 2000 in response to the HIV/Aids pandemic. The heart and purpose of the organisation is to bring hope and destiny for vulnerable and orphaned babies, children and youth threatened by the effects of HIV/AIDS, by building resilient and permanent families through reunification and adoption and empowerment of youth trapped in cycles of risk, poverty and hopelessness. The iThemba Lethu Family Integration Programme caters for the needs of orphaned or abandoned babies and children in Durban and surrounding areas. 100% of the beneficiaries who directly benefit from the organisation’s services are Black South African citizens (as defined in the B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice).

The organization provides a temporary place of safety for abandoned/orphaned babies and their role is to make a traumatic time in their lives as safe and stable as possible, by providing for their emotional, physical and developmental needs.

THE ORPHANS ENDOWMENT FUND DONATES R75 000 TO SUPPORT LILY OF THE VALLEY CHILDREN'S VILLAGE BASED IN HARMASSDALE, DURBAN

Lily of the Valley Children’s Village provides holistic residential care for up to 120 orphaned and vulnerable children placed in their care through the Department of Social Development. The children's ages range from 6 months to 21 years. Each child shares a home with up to 5 other children and they are looked after by a House-mother. 

 

Most of these children are orphans or have no family to support them. They often come at a young age to Lily and stay for a long time in their care. Some are mentally and/or physically disabled and many of them are HIV+. All of them have experienced trauma prior to arriving at Lily. At Lily, they strive to create an environment in which the children can flourish by providing a home, a surrogate family, and a profound sense of belonging.

THE ORPHANS ENDOWMENT FUND DONATES R25 000 TO SUPPORT THE BABY HOME DURBAN NORTH BASED IN DURBAN, KWA-ZULU NATAL.

The Durban North Baby Home is equipped to care for between 6 and 9 babies and toddlers at any one time. It is a world-class haven of love and care in a family environment. Located on the property of the Teunissen Family in Durban North, the facility is considered by many to be a benchmark for such care. Jo Teunissen and her family and team of carers are passionate about what they do. They are trained to provide the best care for babies, including those on the special needs spectrum, and they are well-versed in the psychology of trauma and abandonment.

Baby cases are handled on an individual basis, with reunification or adoption being the priority. For those with complex needs, the home provides the best possible medical care and rehabilitation when that is needed.
